It's funny you know, everyone tells me I play the guitar a bit too hard...what with snapping a string every other gig!! It's always the same guage string and I thought the disease was confined to my telecaster....it now seems to have infected the Les Paul too.....half way through Show me the way and it snapped. Oh well, can't complain, just seems to be the way of things at the mo!!
Anyway, played two good gigs this weekend, the Weardale in Spennymoor and the 3 tuns in Coundon.
The Weardale - thoroughly enjoyed this one apart from my sound, thought i'd give the marshall a run out...much to my dissmay and Waynes delight, the distortion sounded like a chainsaw with blunt teeth...loadsa work needed to achieve a better sound if it's to be used live again (note - Neil hates it when we introduce new gear just before a gig.. lol, quite right too on the evidence of Saturday night!!)
My ability to sound like scooby doo when we play 500 miles is becoming uncanny, perhaps reducing effort on other tunes may save the vocal chords enough to allow a cleaner less strained "ba da da daa".....
The 3 Tuns (bank hol mon) - Well, we were due to start at 5, but we were asked to hold on a bit so as to not clash with the Zoo who were playing in the Ox at a similar time. Anyway we started about 6.45...by which time i'd had 3 more pints than i planned too and felt a little tipsy if I do say so myself!! Luckily my apparent desire for lager didn't muck up the guitar playing, although my balance was a bit worse for wear. It was a first for us in the 3 tuns and it seemed quite busy, good to see some of the faces we used to see in the forresters. Much happier with the sound this time round, the fender amp was performing it's usual stalwart role!! I've worked out what knacks me voice up for 500 miles.......it's everlong...cos it's such an amazing tune, i belt the harmony out like there's nee the morra....and i reckon i must put undue strain on the old chords...so might have to discuss moving that one...we'll see!!
Well enough of my rambling, i'm going to change out of my dressing gown and actually get dressed...hope to see you at the Masons in middlestone moor on Saturday night.
