Bikes, Booze, boobs and odours
By gibbo on 9/21/2008 4:36 PM

Loaded with cold I cycled home from work utterly devastated that the gig I'd looked forward to all year was going to be ruined by this wonderfully timed poorlyness. I could only pray that overnight it would clear up a little, thus giving my voice some range to cope with our set for the Heart & Soul rally, Gosforth race course, the following evening. Saturday morning I awoke sweltering and staggered, spluttering, into the bathroom, where seeing my own reflection shocked me into almost full consciousness. After nibbling breakfast and guzzling gallons of green tea and honey, I ventured to Nixons gaff, finding him sprawled on the doorstep like a fallen pisshead, when in fact he was just trying to find a comfortable sitting position due to nasty back issues he's been battling with lately. We literally 'stuffed' his laguna with music and camping gear and embarked on our sunshine blessed adventure to Gosforth. We planned to meet the others at Washington ...

The swede that's far from open has landed!
By gibbo on 7/22/2008 6:19 PM

Yes indeed, been a canny weekends gigging for us lot. Felt like we hadn't played live in ages for some strange reason. Friday night saw us back in the Blacksmiths Arms in Gosforth, had many a great gig there and Friday was no exception. The audience were awesome, great communication and feedback etc. Always a pleasure to see our two number 1 groupies as well, Anne (geordie rock chick) and Melissa (g.r.c.jr.). Wonder what all the hullabaloo was about when I pulled up and got out my car. Loads of screaming and clattering gannin' on down one of the nearby alleyways, sounded like a scene from Deathwish 3! Local charvas I suspect, more edge than a cracked piss pot!

Saturday night united us in Sacriston Cricket Club for a teriffic follow up to Gosforth. As on Friday, the turnout was great as was the crowd response. Thanks to Del, Cath, Joan, Arthur and Stevie for trailing out....yet again.. ...

Where am I? I can't see
By gibbo on 5/13/2008 9:38 PM

Now that the recovery process is almost complete, I feel I can now try to surmise our recent night out round Crook.

I have NEVER been so wrecked in my entire life, anyone who’s been out on the lash with me before can verify this. I cannot remember a single thing after nine o’clock, so most of the stuff I’m writing is what I’ve been told by others present that night. (actually my ol’ mate Daz from ‘Matrix’ may recall other times, that I don’t recollect)

The initial idea was to go out and watch a band called ‘Young Guns’ , two of which are really cool blokes, really good at what they do, the other two I don’t know at all, and that is exactly what we did. I picked my two mates, Dan and Craig up and headed for Edgey’s house to park the car up for the night, as it was at his house I had arranged to sleep. We got to Edgey’s and Dan and I immediately began taking ad ...

Dodgems, cold remedies and Rock n Roll
By gibbo on 2/24/2008 4:05 PM

Friday tea time and I’m driving home from work, looking forward to the gigs we have lined up, Cleveland Hotel in Redcar that night and The Grand Hotel in Bishop Auckland on the Saturday. I was loaded with cold but managed to convince myself I’d ‘get by’ vocally. Holy shit!!!! ‘CRASH’ The lady driving in front of me slams on her brakes to stop and talk to her friend she’s just seen walking down the street, no signal or pre warning of any kind and predictably, I screech into the back of her. Now anyone who’s had experience with this type of prang will know that it makes no difference whether she was on a mobile phone, eating a pizza or giving herself a pedicure at the wheel, it’s still going to be my fault. Any way, my car was cracked and bent a bit, luckily, her car only suffered a slight scuff, (the repair company will still pull my eyes out I have no doubt), fortunately, the lady was completely unhurt and pleasant to deal with so matters got settled eas ...

Andre the Giant in high heeled pixie boots...
By gibbo on 2/11/2008 1:54 PM

‘Ey up lads n lasses, guess who’s got a day off…..needed after this weekends antics I assure you, booze booze and ………yes…more booze…phew! Hard work with me not being a big, or regular drinker. Had no gigs this weekend so I made a decision to have a weekend on the lash, round Spenny….where else?

Last gig we did have was excellent, our first time playing in Leadgate Cricket Club. Set up was a bit random, but worked out ok…oddly, everyone said the sound was very nice and clear…hopefully the people sat really really close to the speakers can live ok with their new case of tinnitus ….just kidding, we’re never THAT loud…cough! The audience were fantastic, made our first time there really memorable, so we’re keen to return. I’m very grateful also to the gents who booked us and organizers for their very flattering comments, especially the high marks they gave me on my figure skating outside in the snow and ice whilst carrying ‘cilla crackingl ...

Who shall I think about?........
By gibbo on 1/19/2008 5:47 PM

Last nights gig was marvellous, we performed really well, (except the Killers track naturally), The audience were (as I predicted) fantastic, thanks to all who turned out to see us, especially the group who trailed over from Chilton. Thanks to John for coming (I feel musically naked without you out front checking the levels ha ha). Also not forgetting my main man ‘Edgey’ who makes a point of getting to nearly all of our gigs, thankfully refraining from exposing his tickle tackle, and other parts of his anatomy lately. ……Oh yes, he managed to pull too……wonder how that turned out? I actually have some concerns with Edgey’s life at the moment….as he always seem to place far to much emphasis on the state of my hair at every gig…(has anyone noticed…lads?), admittedly, by the end of the night it was like an albatross nest. My hair was nice and tidy till I got out of the car when I reached the venue and it was savaged by the mini hurricane that was blasting dow ...

It's all Waynes Fault........
By gibbo on 1/16/2008 3:54 PM

Well, another blog attempt, since the previous entries that failed to upload, the last one being an absolute mammoth saga, covering numerous gigs and Malcolm’s wedding, which was a great day I might add. So needless to say I’ve been slightly miffed and reluctant to waste time typing anything else, wondering if it will be an exercise in futility.

Anyway, enough whining…..ha ha

We’re back in Coundon this Friday, “Rockin’ The Ox”, hope it goes well because we haven’t really played or rehearsed much lately. A good turn out would be a nice way to open this years gigs, especially since our usual audience in Coundon are an awesome crowd, we’ve had some great gigs there in the past, (in Coundon that is, it’s actually our first time in The Durham Ox). Really looking forward to it, partly because we’ve shuffled our set around a bit, throwing some o ...

Stamp out BULLYING.....
By gibbo on 9/24/2007 10:00 PM

How the hell can ONE e.v. speaker sound like the Newcastle Arena's in house rig? I don't know, but it did. Thats all the guy doing the Disco for the Leeholme gig had, due to the other being damaged....by....erm...someone....?? Sounded astonishing!

The Leeholme gig was tremendous, a great night for everyone there. It would be a good move for whoever concerned to organize another in the not too distant future.

Admittedly I wasn't looking forward to it due to a sore throat and dizzy spells I'd been getting all week before the gig....BUT....I was wrong to worry, as the vocals were on good form as was our performance as a whole. Wayne was throwing in guest BV's again and Paul came up front singing lead vox and playing one chord rhythm guitar on a Clash number...whilst I cunningly perched myself on his trex and sweat soiled drum stool to lay down the beat....I seld ...

roundhouse masons?. . .
By gibbo on 9/9/2007 11:43 AM
always a delight to play the blacksmiths arms in gosforth and friday night was no exception, all songs seemed to be well received and all feedback was superb. . . . I was chuffed with our new opener. . . Which if i recall. . .Has yet to added to our website song list. Speaking of which we all made an executive decision last night to briefly defect from our new song list and rapidly learn a certain fratellis track that we're being constantly badgered to play, we aim to please. Last nights gig was equally enjoyable in a surreal way. Anyone who's seen us knows how diverse our set is and i'm not sure many people knew what most of our songs were. Non the less, a cracking gig with three encores finishing with a request for the foo fighters classic 'everlong' can you believe? I still stop and wonder, no pun intended, how of get away with most of our set in clubs, maybe its an interesting change for the audience not to hear the usual songs played to death on the club circuit. Maybe its because we're 100% live, bungle ...
